Microsoft today rolled out new Cumulative Update KB3176934 for Windows 10 version 1607 (Anniversary Update) today. The update includes improvements and fixes for the latest version of the OS.

There aren’t any new UI changes in this update, but the updates are under the hood.
According to the Microsoft Support page:
If you have installed earlier updates, only the new fixes that are contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your computer. If you’re installing a Windows 10 Version 1607 update for the first time, the package size for the x86 version is 144 MB and the package size for the x64 version is 263 MB.
We have released Cumulative Update (KB3176934) to Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14393 on PCs which will bring the build number to 14393.82. This Cumulative Update includes the same fixes as KB3176932 but with an additional fix: Improved download size optimization of updates.
To get the update, head to Settings > Update & security and hit the Updates button. Also, a restart will be required when finished getting the update.
After getting the update let us know how your system is running afterward.

Hi Brian! Would like your advise. I have the anniversary update on a PNY flash. I have heard that is the best way to install the upgrade. What are your thoughts about that? I haven’t installed the update yet.

Yes, I would do a clean install with a flash drive or DVD (if anyone uses those anymore) :)

Does this update include corrections for systems that had problems upgrading to the anniversary edition? I.e. does it correct system errors and hang-ups on systems with an SSD with the program as well as a HDD for data?

After installing update on two machines my settings app does not work right. It was working fine on the previous build but now when clicking on any of the icons some come up but others just flash. I went onto the Microsoft website and do not see this problem listed. I cannot believe I am the only one with this problem.

Looks like the same problem I had after installing the anniversary update. It started with settings app flashing and progressed to system freezes. According to microsoft it had to do with my windows being installed on a SSD and most apps, programs and data on an additional HDD. Start in safe mode and do a system restore to the original win10 and your problem should be solved. Microsoft claims it is working on a solution…

Hey Cho! That’s why you always create a back up image of your OS before doing any major change to your PC, like a upgrade. If Brian reads this, maybe he can edit this blog and put a warning to always create a back up image before performing any changes to your OS. I could be up and running in 30 minuets or less!.

Hey holdum333…..I do this for entertainment….all of my serious computeware is fully backed up, imaged, cloned, clouded, etc……you know what they say about “assumptions” don’t you..?

No need to get testy about it. Good for you!! You leave one PC not backed up just so can have fun and rebuild it.

See….and there is another assumption….actually we have several not backed up….and a dozen or so that are….all due to our research objectives….
Not being testy….stating a fact….
Most of us advanced system programmers try to not make assumptions.

Just a comment on imaging software. I have been using AOMEI Backerupper for over a year with win 7 and win10. I have all SSD drives in my machines. The program works great with win 7 and win 10 only if your using a conventioal hard drive. The SSD will backup and say they restore fine but will not run. I emailed the company and there lokking into it.

Update! On my older pc this update has caused random instances of freezing (black screen, no keyboard response – just the mouse working), which were not present prior to updating the update. Read a few forums where this has been also occurring to others that updated to this kb.
Each time the pc freezes with the black screen, a cold start is the only way to get the computer up and running again.
Can this update be blocked?
