Windows 8.1 Tip: Make Flash Player Work in Internet Explorer 11

In Windows 8.1,sometimes sites that require Adobe Flash don’t work correctly in IE 11. If you run into this problem, here’s a quick tip on how to fix it.

Adobe Flash is integrated with Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8, so there is no reason to install a separate version of Flash Player like you did with previous versions. However, sometimes sites that require Adobe Flash don’t work correctly in IE 11. If you run into this problem, here’s a quick tip on how to fix it.

The other day I wanted to check out a new TV show on the Starz website. Unfortunately, when I tried to play it in the desktop version of Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1 , all I saw was the error message below.

Flash Error Message

Enable Flash Player in IE 11

To make it work, launch Internet Explorer 11 and click Options (gear icon at the top right-corner) and then click “Manage add-ons”.

Manage Addons 1

In the next window select Toolbars and Extensions, and in the right pane scroll down to Shockwave Flash Object. Right-click on it and select Enable.

enable Flash

After that, go back to the page you wanted to view and it should work without a problem.

This is what worked for me, but since every system is configured differently – different apps, settings, etc. there could be other reasons it’s not working.

Do you think they will ever fix 8.1 to work with AOL’s software or AOL’s software to work with 8.1?

This morning I discovered that the problem(s) I and several others describe are associated with Internet Explorer run from the desktop and that they don’t appear if Internet Explorer is run from it’s app on the start menu in Windows 8.1.

Moreover if you start Internet Explorer from the app, click the circeled wrench at the bottom and choose “Show on desktop” the problems reappear!!!

Seems to me that Microsoft is destinied to make us traditional moorons to accept their new way of access to the Internet.
